INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR TOLERANCE   Today - 16 November - is the International Day for Tolerance. In 1996, the United Nations established the International Day for Tolerance. In its Declaration, it wanted to promote "tolerance by fostering mutual understanding among cultures and peoples", which it felt "is more important than ever in this era of rising and violent extremism and widening conflicts that are characterized by a fundamental disregard for human life." The United Nations added that tolerance "is respect and appreciation of the rich variety of our world's cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human", "recognizes the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others" and, given the diversity of people, "only tolerance can ensure the survival of mixed communities in every region of the globe." This International Day of Tolerance seems more important now than twenty years ago. Intolerance seems to be on the march across the world and is slowly but insidiously creeping into our everyday lives. How tolerant are you? I’m very tolerant - I’m a proud liberal among other things - but I just can't tolerate intolerance! The site has taken down three of my blog posts in the last month. All posts addressed a certain issue that the site doesn’t want you to know about, though you all do! If I don’t reply to comments you know why. This is an example of intolerance. I’ve penned my letter to the United Nations about this so I’m sure it’ll be sorted soon!

I have to say I have a lot of patience and pretty tolerant, but there have been times like here not so much.. Great blog..thanks for sharing I had no idea it was International Tolerance Day.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

How tolerant are you? I try to be tolerant but my biggest issue is ignorance of the issue in a conversation when someone is talking as though they know what they are talking about. Willful ignorance is hard to excuse in this internet world. But sometimes I do realize that it isn't so much willful ignorance as prejudice. Vive La Difference

Spunky, you know me. I'm not all that fucking tolerant these days. I don't feel obligated in any way to be tolerant of greed, bigotry, misogyny and xenophobia. There are a lot of clowns out and about counseling us to be tolerant of the intolerant jackass who was just elected president of the United States. But then, that would be tolerating intolerance, wouldn't it? Not gonna do it. I will not stand by with my mouth shut when the tangerine chump names a white supremacist as his chief strategist. If people aren't bothered by that maybe it's because they're white and figure they're safe. make no mistake about it- nobody is safe with that ignorant and incurious son of a bitch in charge. I am overly tolerant. Probably a result of the wide range of social environments I've been exposed to. ... Although as time goes on, I am becoming less tolerant of offensive statements and behaviors. What a wonderful day!  It should be more widely promoted.

How tolerant are you? This isn't a simple question, is it. While I'm pretty tolerant in general, there are things and people in this world that I won't tolerate. To quote Kzoopair, "I don't feel obligated in any way to be tolerant of greed, bigotry, misogyny and xenophobia." I'd also add racism to things that I won't tolerate. Another thing that I find intolerable is this site's way of dealing with security problems and with people who dare to make others aware of them. I've always been a liberal, raised in a household of conservatives, how does that happen? Never voted for a Republican, though I did vote for Perot, twice. Geez, he was conservative AND French! Intolerance-unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from one's own. synonyms- bigotry, narrow-mindedness, small-mindedness, illiberality, parochialism, provincialism.

I consider myself to be tolerant.. but, according to some that visit my blog. I'm not tolerant of assholes that says fucked up things.. oh wait, that's true.. but they don't consider what I'm saying tolerant.. so, this I suppose is how we get to where we are in this world. no one wants to listen to each others side. But , l (one example) tried to watch and listen to faux news.. and well it just makes me sick to hear what they are saying.. so, I take it back, I'm not as tolerant of assholes and bullshit as I thought I was. Ignorance is the main reason for intloerance, but we should tolerate ignorance and promote awareness, education, knowledge etc to counter that sort of intolerance!
